Articles Grimshaw hosts Open-City's Accelerate Programme

Grimshaw held a three-day workshop at their London studio as part of the Accelerate 2024 programme, welcoming a cohort of seven talented A-level students.

Building upon the success of previous years, this year's workshop, spearheaded by Grimshaw mentors Emily Chooi, Thorin Costain, Claire Greenland, Tom Durham, Rebecca Kelly, Helen Wright-Zhang, and Quincy Lo, with support from Matt Sawyer, was crafted around the theme of 'The Daily Ritual'.

Through a series of engaging activities spanning the three days, students were encouraged to explore their interpretations of the brief, developing a diverse array of conceptual and design ideas.

"Fantastic to see the calibre of talent, creativity, and determination demonstrated by this year's cohort of Accelerate students. Beyond the creative endeavours, mentorship sessions delved into discussions about prospects and the pathways available within architectural and creative professions."

Matt Sawyer, Associate at Grimshaw

The Accelerate Programme, developed by Open-City →, is a unique initiative designed to foster leadership skills among young people. By providing them with the tools and resources they need to succeed, the programme aims to empower the next generation of leaders and change-makers.

Recognising the pivotal role of initiatives like Accelerate within the architectural and built environment as platforms of opportunity for aspiring young individuals under 18, Grimshaw continues to support and be a key member of this educational programme.

We look forward to reconnecting with the students again later this year during their Accelerate exhibition this summer!
